That’s how I got my first IT tech job; I was the only one under 25 to apply. There is or was some sort of Government initiative to get jobs to under 25’s. I don’t think the school was forced to take people under 25 but there is a push towards that at times.
I don’t recall the details but there was a reference to it in the job advert to under 25's. It was legal a few years back. Dont see why its not legal now.
Age Discrimination Act 2006 says that:
The Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 make it unlawful to discriminate against employees, job seekers and trainees because of their age.

23rd March 2010, 04:18 PM #483 First Thanks Axes you gave me an idea for my blog at computerworlduk but expand little on your situation.
It maybe worth in mean time to keep your hand in it see if any volunteer opportunities near you at Home - iT4Communities
As I know at one point in previous life I volunteered for some IT work at local youth club turned then into a youth worker job/ Technician job and gave me some extra money etc and kept my hand in it.
So maybe an idea?

25th March 2010, 06:00 PM #484 I've been trying to apply for >this< job for the last few days, but I can't seem to get any response from them. A bit early for end of term.

It's actually a guaranteed work experience placement for up to six weeks or training, usually CV writing, health and safety, and such.

Don't really understand what point you're arguing? I was just pointing out that age discrimination is a crime, don't really know what that has to do with any government initiative?

6th April 2010, 03:39 PM #489 Update time?
I'm back on 'new deal' next week, so I have lots of pointless induction and form filling to look forward to... again. I've sent out emails to over 200 schools so far, begging for a 15 day work placement but I haven't had any luck yet. I can't believe that there's nobody out there that could use a skilled technician for a few weeks.
The battle continues.

6th April 2010, 10:05 PM #490 Good luck mate - I do hope you find something soon - would it be worth starting a thread asking if anyone can help you with a work placement? They may not be reading this thread.
I think that you should do it - you never know!

20th April 2010, 04:55 PM #493 Update time.
I had to make a list of all the interviews I've had recently:
Berkeley, Bristol, Borehamwood, Brockworth, Barnet.
Tomorrow, I have an interview in Biggleswade... I'm starting to see a pattern. I'm only getting interviews in places beginning with B. How bizarre.
I wonder how long this new trend will last?
I'll have to do the CompTIA course again, since it's taken the JCP so long to sort out payment that the exam series has been replaced. Really annoying considering that I was ready to take the exam last November. Still, a more up-to-date qualification is probably better.

Good luck with the interview... with any luck the other interviewees will be marooned in foreign places without planes to further improve your chance of shining!
