I worked in a PC repair shop for 18 months, until I had to leave because of 'new deal'. I repaired over 1500 PC's and laptops. I've tried working for myself and wasted hundreds on advertising. I can't drive, there's more than enough competition and they're not hiring either.

    Have you considered working abroad?

Seriously, Australia has a major shortage of just about every skilled professional going - my brother-in-law recently went out there just to visit family he was offered two jobs while he was out there on holiday.

    Just a random thought.

    Commiserations about the latest rejection.

Yes, I've made quite a few applications for vacancies abroad; competition is fierce.

Apart from IT apparently, according to the stats I've seen lately, It's more the manual laborer-ish jobs that need them (and doctors).

From my research, it varies by location. Perth, for example, seems to want a lot more IT staff than the Sydney area.

Indeed. I can only hope there is something useful in the feedback I can learn from.
I had an interview in a dry cleaners yesterday. My rationalisation of how my previous role as an IT Manager has tranferrable skills to dry cleaning was truly epic.

That's what I found as well while there. I had a friend with an IT degree who had a good employment history and good .NET/SQL server skills who lived in Sydney for a year and couldn't find a job. They've never had trouble finding work over here so I believe he's an employable type.

    No feedback yet.
I've been up since 4:00 filling in more application forms. The fight continues...
    Code:
                <-A->
     # @ M # @ M #
     # @ M # @ M #
     # @ M # @ M #
     # @ @ M #
       @. M #
        .
     /\ . /\ /\ /\
        ∆
I didn't get the dry-cleaning job. I still don't know what I'll do in August.

I've just had an application for a technician post rejected because I'm over 25.
At 28, am I too old to be a technician? Is that my problem?

    Haha that's just silly.
