The majority of well trained people don't stay in unskilled jobs for a long period of time, there is no arguing against that fact. Sure, there are exceptions but as a whole unskilled places don't keep skilled workers.

I totally agree with you in a lot of jobs - but not in McDonalds.
Who knows, maybe AXE would enjoy it - especially as it brings money in. Plus isn't there that saying that once you have a job it's easier to get a job?
As well as the work - there is also the socialising that would come from working. I met many a teacher whilst working the till. I also got some experience messing with the tills in McDonalds - it was excellent experience for working with young people etc.
The main point of my post was that there is always somewhere to get a job and sometimes you have to start at the bottom and work up. Just bringing the cash in is important in ACE's case I think.

The point I am trying to make is that there are currently > 2million people unemployed in the UK. The segment of the population with the most unemployed is the 18 - 25 segment. This is also the segment that companies such as McD's like to hire - they're cheap, trainable and are less likely to leave their job. So, every job McD's advertises they will get hundreds of applications. They are still going to choose the ones who will most likely stay the longest. McD's simply wouldn't even look at AXE as a candidate compared to an unqualified, cheap to employ, no other prospects young person.
*Note: I am using McD's as an example. This applies to any unskilled jobs.

Now that is a good suggestion. Although I suspect the temping market is as bad as the normal job market at the moment.

Yo, work for Microsoft now on their graduate scheme - hence why I deleted all my info.

There are jobs out there, some are not very nice admittedly but you have to pester the agencies on a regular basis otherwise you will get no -where.

During my 4 years at my store I thoroughly enjoyed it. There wasn't a store next to my Uni so I came home and worked. My usual hours were:
Friday 4pm - 12pm
Saturday 7am - 4pm
Sunday 7am - 4pm
I'd work longer if they needed me to. Quite happy to get the cash every two weeks.
The night shifts were cool as well - 8pm - 5am Sat and Sun.
Brilliant time.

No, what I meant if the house prices are increasing then it maybe showing that the economy is getting back on its feet. Wasn't aimed at anyone.

29th January 2010, 03:33 PM #414 Some good news today. DWP finally started making payments again. Hopefully it's not too late, I won't know for certain until next week.
A big thank you to everyone who offered advice/suggestions, your kind efforts have got me through these difficult times. I'm going to try out a different approach once the weather is warmer, you might even get to meet me.

16th February 2010, 06:57 PM #415 Update time?
I had an interview today, which went quite well. I know that I was unsuitable for the job, but at least they know now that I exist and what I can do for them... and it's good practice. I've had a large number of rejection letters recently, including one school that decided to 'withdraw the post at this time due to the low number of applicants'. Personally, I think it makes more sense to pick the 'right' applicant as opposed to the 'least worst' applicant. Still, I could get the chance to apply again sometime in the future.
I still don't know what/where/if I'll be living in the coming months, and I had to endure a lecture about not eating. I'm talking with 20 different councils at the moment, trying to get them to help me by offering / helping to arrange work placements, I've also been appealing to schools directly.
So if anyone asks you if you could use someone to help for a couple of weeks, say YES.

16th February 2010, 09:30 PM #417 there may be 1 or possibly 2 posts coming up here soon. We could do with someone with experience rather than train up a noobie!
let me know where abouts you are and I'll keep you posted with any news!
Thanks

16th February 2010, 10:01 PM #418 Axe: I've nothing to add to your situation however would just like to say it's clear your mind is looking more positive and you appear to be setting about things in a better way as a direct result. Keep it up and no doubt something good will soon come of it.
