Voluntary Employment

While Im currently looking and applying for jobs, are there any companies that will take on a computer technician/engineer/administrative person as a voluntary worker? I need to keep working to keep me mentally and physically active.

Im asking the question first. I dont know if companies will accept this from an individual. But if someone has done this before, how should I approach them?
