Community ICT Technician – South Dartmoor Community College
Organisation: DEVON COUNTY COUNCIL
Salary Details: Grade E, Spine Point 23 (£19,940) Pro Rata. (This rate does not reflect the anticipated pay increase of 2.45% from 1st April 09).
Travel expenses at county rates will be paid and you will require the use of your own vehicle.
Hours: Full Time 37 hours per week, term time only, temporary for one year initially, with a view to become a permanent position.
Location: South Dartmoor Community College, Balland Lane, Ashburton, Devon. TQ13 7EW

South Dartmoor Community College is a school situated within Dartmoor National Park with 1700 students (11-18) and over 200 staff. We are a specialist Sports College and Training School. ICT is integral to the school and its implementation wide and varied.
We are recruiting an ICT Technician to support ICT throughout our Networked Learning Community which comprises of up to 9 primary feeder schools including curriculum and administration systems. The ICT provision is varied throughout the schools creating interesting and new challenges on each site. You will be a good communicator with excellent problem
solving skills and be able to work independently. You will be responsible to the ICT Systems Manager, be able to cope with several projects and issues at any one time, self motivated and work well under pressure.
You will need excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to deal with both students and staff on a day to day basis and understand their needs. You will have excellent technical skills including experience of some of the following:
- Ethernet and Switched Networking
- Wireless LAN
- VOIP
- VLANS
- Server Operating systems including Windows, Mac O/S and Linux
- Desktop operating systems such as Windows, Mac O/S and Linux
- Productivity Suites such as Microsoft Office and Openoffice
- Active Directory
- Implementing and problem solving Group Policies
- Creating Software Packages and Imaging
- Microsoft Exchange
- Pocket PC Technologies
- VPN
- Backup Technologies
- SQL Databases
- Virtualisation
- Microsoft SharePoint
- IP CCTV, BMS, Videoconferencing, Printing
- Web development
- AV equipment including data projectors and interactive whiteboards
In addition, specific knowledge of RM Community Connect, Viglen Classlink and the SIMS product would be advantageous.
We are looking for an independent individual who has ability in hardware/software support, troubleshooting, solution implementation and always maintains high levels of attention to detail.
