Oaklands College is a general Further Education College providing a varied portfolio of courses to the local community. Courses include full time and part time further education, higher education, work based learning and community learning.
The College has undertaken a number of key organisational developments over the last 2 years in line with the strategy to achieve excellence by 2011.
Part of this strategy includes the implementation of an enabling, well managed, reliable and fast IT Infrastructure which the College will use for teaching, learning, administration, management information and communication. The current IT infrastructure serves 5 sites linked by wireless (Motorola) WAN links with local areas networks on each site serving between 100 to 750 workstations. There are 800 staff and 15,000 student Active Directory accounts with 1700 PC and 130 Apple workstations. The College is undertaking a significant investment in IT Infrastructure involving:
* Network re-design and re-implementation around Cisco core and edge switches
* EMC SANs on each major site
* Virtualisation of the server infrastructure based on VMWare and VCentre
* Re-implementation of Active Directory and Storage Structures
* Integration of Apple equipment
On this technical platform an IT Service will be developed based around ITIL standards.
Major platforms include:
* Active Directory (Windows 2003)
* MS Exchange (2003)
* Oracle, SQL Server (2005) and MySQL
* Apple Integration - OSX
* Content filtering (under review)
* Software deployment (will implement SCCM)
* XP at the desktop
This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled IT professional to bring authoritative Active Directory implementation and management skills to bear on a large scale IT infrastructure at a time of transformation. Ideally you will be qualified to MCSE level, with experience of managing large scale systems; automating the management of large numbers of AD users and working to modern, professional service standards.
It is essential that you can demonstrate technical authority from the outset.
Experience within an FE College is not essential but a positive, ‘can do’ attitude is. If you are a self-motivated IT professional who is looking for an exciting opportunity to demonstrate that their technical skills can make a difference, we would like to hear from you.
