3 Weeks for my MOD one, 4 weeks for my work one.

We (college) undertake some other types of checks prior to commencing employment and awaiting the CRB.

We had a vacancy locally for a lollipop person last November. She finally started work last week after getting her CRB check through. I don't know how unusual this is, but mine have come through in a matter of weeks.

Mine took a few weeks to come through but it can take anything from a few weeks to a few months I'm told.

So anyone appointed to a new job in a school or any other body involved in the care of vulnerable people may have to wait two months or more before starting. That's two months if you include the normal notice period for support staff.

What? A kind of Monsters Inc phase where you have to run away at the mere sight of a child?

Usually nobody should be contact with Children without a List 99 Check - results of which are available within 24 hours as LAs have access to the online system. CRBS usually take 2 - 4 weeks on average and can take a upto 3 months.

Do you get a letter through to say when you've had it done or something. I've not heard anything about mine and I've been there two weeks now lol.

The CRB aims to process 90% of Standard checks in 10 days and 90% of Enhanced checks in 4 weeks.

This will depend upon your employer or in some cases the law. However, if you either work or have applied to work:

in a school, you may wish to tell the person who asked you to apply for the CRB check that the Department for Education and Skill allows applicants, who have applied for a CRB check, to start work in a school under supervision if they are not on List 99- a list a people barred from working in schools. A List 99 check is available to schools and can be obtained from their Local Education Authority.

as a care worker, you may wish to tell the person who asked you to apply for the CRB check that the Department for Health (DH) allows applicants, who have applied for a CRB check, to start work as a care worker under supervision if they are not on the Protection of Vulnerable Adults (POVA) list - a list of people barred from working with vulnerable adults. A POVA check is available to care homes, domiciliary care agencies and adult placement schemes from the CRB, and it is called POVAFirst. The person who asked you to apply for the CRB check can request a POVAFirst check from the CRB.
    See here.

    Hope this helps

@Joedetic: My last few have come through in about a fortnight, but that's pretty quick. Chase it after six weeks. You will get a copy of it for your records to your (usually) home address.
