I have a job interview next Thursday for NM position at the school I work at.
Im a bit unsure what sort of questions they will be asking.
would really appreciate some advices tips etc
cheers

Since you already work there - they might ask how you see the role as being different from the one you already do..in terms of responsibility, management of others, setting priorities etc

My guess is that as they know what you are capable of technically and they know your personality that they will focus on "how" you will manage the department. Maybe a "what changes would you make" or "how would you improve upon..."

I view a network mangers role to be more pro-active than re-active.
Prevent problems, through monitoring, training, a more managed approach to system development.
Do they plan to employ another technician if you get the job? Would you line manage them? If so, think about how you would deal with their induction / training. How would you mange them - delegate work, praise, reprimand.

If I do get the job, a technician will be needed.
Hoping you get the job mate. If you don't I am sure it will be good experience for your next NM i/v.
Hopefully whenthey pick you, you will have some power at least to change things and ensure that future techies don't get the same treatment you've had.
I had an interview for team leader, the mgmt type q's were about conflict and change management, discipline and hiring and firing.
Good luck!

Is this a new position or has the person left? You might also want to find out what authority the NM position will give you. You may find that the NM may not be in a position to change the JD of the technician.
Remember an interview is a 2 way thing. It will give you the chance to ask how the school sees the role of a NM fitting into the existing setup.

Along with what everyone has stated, you will probably need to show how you will improve the deparment and how this would in turn impact on the school. Its usually a good rule not to put down the previous NM, just tactfully say how you do things better (i.e. focus on the positive). Didnt they ask you to do a presentation?
