They told me to volunteer at a local primary school... so I rung about 20.
They all either already have volunteers or don't need anyone so I am back to sq 1.
Can anyone think of a reason I shouldn't call the high schools?

Can't see any reason why not, they are more likely to have the staff already to do it but as you may have read here many are understaffed and would be pleased at the help.
The worst thing they can do is say no.

Give em a ring - you've nothing to lose. The first techie I took on at our school was someone who'd started off on a voluntary basis. Why not try Accy college as well?

I have made a list from yellow pages...
Who'd have thought volunteering would be such a competitive market?!

What is it about this comment in interview feedback that makes you want to slap someone?!
I get really annoyed when people who know nothing more about you than from reading your CV and talking to you for 10 minutes decide they know whether a job would suit you better than you do
I've had this happen a couple of times, including one particularly annoying time when I was going for my first job - they said the job wouldn't challenge me enough, and that with my qualifications I should look for a management role. I had very little experience FFS! How was I suppose to get a management role if no-one would give me an entry-level job to get the experience?
I hate the whole job interview process. It all seems like such a waste of time!

t's an easy get out for a lazy recruiter isn't it ?
You're overqualifed you'll be underwhelmeed by the job and you'll soon get fed up over working for a pittance... so we'll give the job to someone who'll not aspire to anything instead. That way we won't have to worry about readvertising 18 months - 2 years from now.

10th May 2008, 10:22 AM #22 I am still really niffed off about this. I walked the technical test, as far as I could tell as no-one else could connect the network printer/join the domain even if at the time I didn't know that shadow copies were to do with 2k3 server and VSS I made a good stab at an educated guess.
I don't blame them for picking the other guy, I guess but I perceive the job as mainly technical, why pick someone who couldn't join a domain??? Factor in that I was looking at least a 5k pay cut you'd have thought they'd bite my hand off.
I think I will ask them if they want a volunteer LOL
