CMIS Salary

Hi,

I've recently been taken on as a Data Management Officer for a secondary school. I use Facility CMIS to do everything from advanced report writing and creating assessments, to performing data returns for census etc. I pull data from CMIS and provide spreadsheets for performance tracking. I have to timetable in scheduler, though I do not solely design the timetable, mainly implement it in Facility.

I'm new to both education and CMIS (though not to data management), and I'll have the opportunity to have my salary reviewed in a few months, so I'd like to get some idea of what such a role should command (as I'm hoping it should be more than I currently receive).

I am currently on sub-£15K.

I know a couple of schools who pay around 20-22k for a similar role as that.

Well, unless you are in a one-room school house on a remote wind swept island, then you are being underpayed by about £10,0000. Even if the school knock off a grand or two for your lack of specific CMIS experience you should still be getting over £20,000.

Data manager jobs tend to be the top end of support staff salaries, only coming below Bursars and PAs. Just do a forum search for Data Manager and you'll see what I mean.

Our SIMS data manager is only on about 15/16k - and that's pro-rata as she is term time only

Considering you have no experience, I think your salary is good.
Unless you live in central London!

The salary is quite low but obviously the level of experience currently doesn't match a typical data management salary. We place plenty of data managers and with 1-2 years proper experience I would be expecting the school to pay @£25K+ and I have worked with schools, with cmis, paying up to £40K. (obvioulsy those schools expect plenty of previous experience)

What I would say is that you are actually in a great position, learning a niche piece of software which in a year or two's time will translate to being able to negotiate your own salary and there are certainly schools out there who would pay well for the experience

Unfortunately, depending on where you are in the country, may mean your choices are limited as CMIS is nowhere near as prevalent as SIMS

I was in the same boat as you Queeg, new to educational data management but had experience in other areas. I am currently on £21k to £23k, so i suggest that sub £15k is taking the pi$$;-)
