The head teacher from st-nicholas school in chppenham, Jill Owen, has recently spoken to me about appointing an ICT support assistant in her school. As she has never had to interview anyone for this role before, she would really appreciate some help with interview questions - what qualities should I be looking for, etc.
It is a small school with an ICT suite comprising just 6 computers. They have recently networked the whole school so each of the 8 classrooms now has access to the internet and network. I understand the network is a very basic, simple one. The role of the successful applicant will also include working with her pupils, usually one-to-one, to support their access to ICT.
Whilst they feel confident in devising interview questions which address the pupil support aspect of the job, they are not confident with the technical side of things, so some suggestions for suitable questions would be very much appreciated.

Could you not offer to sit in on the interview and pose a few technical questions?
Even if the head asks the right questions, chances are she won't know if the answers given are correct.

I wish I had the spare time to leave my network and go across for the morning of the interview to help, but unfortunately I have to much work on at my school!

You can do simple ones to test their network knowledge, i know they may sound simple but some people really do try to blag their way into jobs like these so its worth asking
How do you connect a network printer?
What is the command line command to check all of the IP settings of a computer?
What does DHCP do?
You have a network with 1 windows 2003 server and 10 computers with 100 users, all who have access to a shared folder and their own user area what are the first things you would find out about the network if you were administering it? Quite an open question but looking for answers like, DHCP or static? Hows users logon, permissions for shares, backup procedures etc. It would give you an idea of how they think about things given the relatively simple environment.
Hope that helps
Matt
P.s. i have never interviewed anyone before so they might be rubbish ideas.

The first question i'd ask is...
Do you know how to get rid of the annoying sound effects on our school website ?
Do you have the patience of a saint ?
Would you mind if we paid you in peanuts rather than cold hard cash ?
Do you have any IT employment experience whatsoever ?
You do. Excellent you've got the job. When can you start...
End of interview.
