The Harris Federation comprises 27 primary and secondary academies and we are one of the most successful Academy groups in the country. We currently educate 20,000+ pupils in and around London. Nine out of eleven inspected Harris Academies open for more than a year have been judged to be Outstanding by Ofsted (82% compared to 20% nationally). Our average improvement in five GCSEs with English and Maths since opening is 33%.
92% of Harris students achieved 5 or more good GCSE passes this summer. 99.6% of Harris students achieved 2 or more A-level or equivalent, enabling many students to progress to excellent careers and top Universities. Our aim is to give every student the very best start in life through the provision of an outstanding education.
The Harris Federation is planning to grow over the next 2-3 years by at least another 15 Academies. This is a great opportunity to be part of a growing team, creating and building a new approach to IT, changing the culture, shaping how we do things and really having an influence on how we deliver great service to all of the Academies. The team currently provides support for over 20,000 users and 10,000 endpoint devices.
Recently there has been a considerable investment in updating the central and local infrastructure including a move to more virtualisation of both the server and desktop estate utilising Netapp and Cisco UCS in a dual centre FlexPod configuration. A large scale VDI implementation has been completed and we now need a specialist to manage the "backend". This role must have similar experience of supporting large scale virtual infrastructure using HyperV 2012 and XenDesktop 5.6.
This role will work as part of the central federation IT Infrastructure team (four staff) and will povide direction and support for all of the Federations systems. This role will share the support on all systems, but will "specialise" on the backend virtual systems. Essential areas of experience are

To effectively manage the infrastructure to enable Group ICT to provide an excellent IT Service in line with ITIL principles to our customers.
To effectively design, manage and support the entire infrastructure across the group including Academies and Data Centres. Enable Group ICT to provide an excellent IT Service in line with ITIL principles to our customers. Ensure the Infrastructure is stable, secure and resilient. Provide Technical Design Authority services to all projects.
Working with other members of the Infrastructure team (3rd line) these roles have responsibility for the design, support, operational management, monitoring and maintenance of all ICT systems and infrastructure across the Harris Federation. This includes LAN, WAN, Servers, Virtual infrastructure, storage, central and local server based applications.
Design and Support of Systems
Review and analyse current technology infrastructure and its ability to support strategic corporate objectives
Identify and propose specific strategies, initiatives and remedies necessary to align technology infrastructure with corporate objectives.
Support development of business drivers, business case and high level program implementation plan
Continually research new technologies to ensure the Federation systems are as efficient, effective, resilient and secure as possible.
Promote awareness of new technologies, maintain up to date knowledge of leading-edge technology and associated vendors, Liaise with vendors, partners and service providers as appropriate.
Disseminate information about new systems to the immediate and remote IT Team
Design, build and maintain the systems to ensure that they:
o are secure;
o are resilient;
o are appropriate for needs;
o have sufficient capacity;
o have perform as required;
o are available when required;
o provide value for money;
o documented appropriately.
To Promote shared and common infrastructure across the Harris Federation in accordance with HarrisNET standards
Develop and maintain standard processes and procedures for the maintenance and operational management of all components of HarrisNET.
Develop and maintain a consistent operational monitoring and reporting platform for HarrisNET and all Academy ICT systems
Ensure that all ICT solutions that form HarrisNET are fit for purpose, scalable, adaptable and compliant with all necessary standards and regulations.
Develop and maintain standard migration processes and procedures to ensure the smooth transition of new Academies into the HarrisNET single network.
Identify training requirements for ICT support staff within the central team and across the Harris Federation
Ensure that deployed solutions and underlying documentation are regularly reviewed and refreshed as necessary, incorporating lessons learned from other projects.
Maintain strong lines of communication with all relevant areas of the organization and with relevant external entities
Core TCP/IP fundamentals, including OSI model, CIDR, subnets, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, RADIUS
SAN & storage fundamentals, including iSCSI, SAS, RAID levels etc.

If this vacancy is still open it might be worth stating the new deadline as the original advert puts this in October.
