Media/Web technician role - pay scale/duties advice needed
Hi
I've lurked and searched around the forum and was wondering if someone might be able to help me.....? Sorry for the long post!
I'm an IT technician at a South London High School but am having more duties put my way and need to get my job description (and money) updated to reflect the new responsibilities. I've been told I need to find an existing job title/wage scale that matches my new duties.
My job at the moment is fairly basic:
PC hardware/software maintenance and supporting the network manager.
The new/additional responsibilities coming my way are:
Customising/maintaining and developing the VLE (Moodle at this point) PLUS training teachers in its use.
Taking responsibility for developing the Intranet (the old one is obsolete and has been unavailable for some time)
Further development of the web site (I've put together the school website already because the old one was pretty bad)
Media - training & assisting teacher(s) & possibly students in video editing & DVD production to a high standard (Mac/Final Cut Express).
I'd really like to hear from any Media/Web technicians to hear what their titles/duties/wages are, I really hope someone can help as I need to resolve my situation before I take charge of the above duties.
I should explain that I've been doing web development for a few years before working here so am capable of doing a very good job with regards to the web & moodle stuff rather than an being an enthusiastic learner.
Thanks in advance for any input, it would be much appreciated!
Dave.

I know it wont be what you want to hear but id guess most of the people on here do all the above jobs as just part of the "technicians" role with no extra pay, i certainly do
BTW im on just short of £15k pa

Yeah, I agree with j17sparky - if it's got a plug on it somewhere then it's part of your job description. Bad I know but it's the way it is. Many hats and crap salaries.

Dave.
I think that this is the extra bit that most of us don't do. Have you looked on job websites for something similar? I think the new responsibilities must be worth a few grand a year.

I am just drawing up a job spec for a dedicated media and web technician (but will also get them to be doing general network stuff as well
). I expect their scale to be circa 16k term time only.

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated.
I hear what you're saying Sparky & TechGuy.
Witch, I think you're right, the media/video work is worth me concentrating on in terms of changing my job description.
Electronic Resource Coordinator sounds good in terms of title :-)
Teddy, you're evil!
Dave.
