Harnessing Technology Technical Champions Has your school got an IT manager who could be a Harnessing Technology Technical Champion?
As part of the ongoing work by the Harnessing Technologies team, we are continuing to highlight the role that IT Support staff can have in developing and sharing best practice. The role of a Technical Champion is to be a key representative for our schools, focused on bridging the gap between educational and technical; developing sustainable IT within our schools and working with senior leaders and teachers in ensuring appropriate technologies are chosen to move learning forward.
Last year the Harnessing Technologies team worked with Becta and The FITS Foundation to pilot the Framework for IT Technical Support (FITS) accreditation. We were able to offer funded places for IT Managers around the county to take part in the initial training programme, to support their schools in the implementation of FITS, to provide guidance for the IT Manager as they work towards FITS Accreditation, and include them as stakeholders for a variety of projects covering the Harnessing Technology agenda.
As part of an expansion of this group we would like to ask schools to bid for places for their IT Support staff in the next round of FITS training. Those taking part in this training would be supported by existing FITS Managers and be part of a growing national community.
Senior Leaders in schools can find many benefits from implementing some or all elements of FITS, including improved quality of IT provision, reduction in costs through better management of resources and an increased focus on technology to suit the educational needs of the school. We would ask for responses by close of play Friday 29th October 2010.
The 2-day FITS (practitioner) training will be free for those successful applicants but we may have additional places for those interested in funding their own staff or sending additional staff
