It is a day for events.
NetworkNorthants - Safeguarding Through Technology - Eventbrite
The growth of technology within schools presents a number of challenges for senior leaders, teachers and IT support staff. OFSTED's recent report on safeguarding emphasised that management is key to supporting children's understanding of safeguarding.
This free event is aimed at raising awareness of different tools which can be used as part of safeguarding, and will target IT professionals working in and for schools, senior leaders in schools, key teachers and advisors or consultants working in Northamptonshire, as well as being open to the wider Education Technology community.
The morning will look at classroom management and monitoring tools, both to allow for control of pupil activities and also as educational tools to support teaching and learning.
The afternoon will look at the range of options for providing filtering solutions in schools, how they can be implemented and the impact they can bring.
Keynote sessions before and after lunch will focus on the role of Acceptable Use Policies, advisory materials for schools and parents, options for safeguarding training and the role of effective management of technology to support children learning about safe use of the internet at school and at home.
Registration is from 9-9.30am and breakfast rolls will be available.
Buffet lunch will be provided.

25th May 2011, 05:16 PM #2 A massive thank you to those who came along today ... it was quite a fun event. Big thumbs up have to go to @elsiegee40 who came up.
Thank you to Meha from Altimate (formerly known as CodeWorks), Karen and Dan from Impero Software, David and George from iTS, Kevin and Toby from RM, Bill and Sally-Ann from Securus, Caroline Moore (e Safety- Safeguarding Children Online / LSCBN eSafety Officer), Josie Fraser, Jane and David from EMBC and Rob and Sean from Smoothwall.
Those members of NetworkNorthants who couldn't make it, or couldn't make the full day we will be putting up as many of the resources as we can on the NetworkNorthants site after half-term. Some goodies and information were also left behind by some folks for the next NetworkNorthants workshop (15th July ... get it in your diary) ... but the chocolates left by Altimate will be gone. Trust me on that one!
And a final thank you to Tracy and @Stevegough for helping get the event going.
I'll follow up over the next few days with feedback from folk and things to look out for, and some folk have already said they will be making blog posts.

25th May 2011, 08:00 PM #4 A good day out! Lovely location. Caroline Moore, the e-Safety Oficer could have done with a double slot to dilute the sales-speak, but otherwise no complaints from me!

One of the problems with people asking to see a range of options ... you get quite a lot of vendors happy to come along ... but I would have quite happily had Caroline presenting all morning ... Those IT staff who have been to her TUK training do get their eyes opened.

Hehe, so it was you! If only I'd knew, I'd have said hello - was wearing a bright yellow Edugeek lanyard behind you

26th May 2011, 08:52 AM #11 Shows how observant I am. The only other geek lanyard I could see when I was there was grumbledook's... I obviously wasn't looking properly

I did invite Gav ... but he kept claiming he had something more important ... and how inconsiderate of you to run an event on the same day?
