Going back a long way but ... http://nemismail.northants-ecl.gov.uk/exchange might still work.

As for sending, I used to set it up to use EMBC's SMTP servers with authentication (using an EMBC email account) and it worked fine outside of school, not sure if it's changed or not.

In our case our head/bursar had both an EMBC (scoobydoo.northants.sch.uk) and northants-ecl address so it was quite straight forward.

    Hope this helps.

Aye, the trouble we're having is one of having the emails to hand and being able to reply there and then - for instance, if a head takes her laptop home, the account is already there and what not. As usual, completely snowed under so takes work home with her.
Will have a play with authentication, trouble is it's rather difficult to test!

I'm pretty confident it will still work, if not ring synetrix they should be used to it by now I think I explained it to them (why northants-ecl.gov.uk) exists back then.

This is exactly what I do at my school and it works fine. E-mail is received via nemismail.northants-ecl.gov.uk (POP3) and sent via smtp.embc.uk.com using the users EMBC e-mail account for authentication. The reply address in Outlook has been set to their northants-ecl.gov.uk e-mail address.

Has anyone had any luck with this since the big change over the summer?
The head no longer appears to be able to send emails from home, the just bounce back as "Undeliverable" due to "Relaying denied".
Having spoken to Capita, they just say it is not possible, and the only way to send a head email out of school would be to use the OWA. This is extremely inconvenient for the head.

At the moment I use the relay.embc.uk.com for the SMTP server, and entering the standard smtp.embc.uk.com just refuses to send. I have tried entering a EMBC user account, but then it refuses as the email address doesn't match.

    Any ideas?

Relay.embc is not available when off the EMBC network ... it is designed as an on-network relay only.

I'll try and see if I can stick the full doc about what is happening on here, or get a link to it. IIRC it is accessible via the Schools Factsheet only.

Drop me a call tomorrow morning and I can chat you through bits.
