Found this short guide intended to help parents' understand risks of children using Twitter. Fairly basic e-safety info that probably applies to more than Twitter, but not bad. There is also a guide to Facebook linked from the page, but it's not as comprehensive as the other material already on here.

Oh boy! Have they changed things this time, or what?!
It's been more-or-less a complete rewrite to get this one correct and I must acknowledge the help of both my teenagers in getting to the bottom of it this time.
Be patient and wade through your settings, it is worthwhile!
