Linux equivelent is memtest86. Its avalible on most Linux LiveCDs (eg Knoppix) as a boot option but you can also get a standalone floppy disk image and/or ISO if you prefer.

Its also worth noting that you should turn off your L1 and L2 cache in your BIOS (if you can) when testing memory. Caching sometimes masks those pesky intimittant errors.
Beat me to it Geoff, i was going to mention memtest86 on the gentoo CD (yes i actually got time to boot the livecd yesterday)![]()
