It appears that the latest version of VLC breaks the DVD decoding feature of HandBrake on Mac's. See this thread on the HandBrake forums for more info (and a fix).

If you want to use VLC to play Blu-ray's, you need to download the relevant plug-in from the VideoHelp website.

On the more obscure side of the featureset, VLC 2.0 also has partial support for DVB-T2 EPG data (in previous versions the data was completely garbled, now decodes some of it and omits the rest).

    2. Install a copy of libdvdcss.2.dylib in /usr/lib or /usr/local/lib
Videolan kindly provides a Universal (Intel 32+64-bit) .pkg installer: link- thanks!
This is the recommended solution; and it works for HandBrake 0.9.5, too
Then to run the command as per the forum -->
    Code:
    file /usr/lib/libdvdcss.2.dylib
Which should give you an output similar to:

    Code:
    /usr/lib/libdvdcss.2.dylib: Mach-O universal binary with 2 architectures
/usr/lib/libdvdcss.2.dylib (for architecture i386): Mach-O dynamically linked shared library i386
    /usr/lib/libdvdcss.2.dylib (for architecture x86_64): Mach-O 64-bit dynamically linked shared library x86_64

Had some issues with DVD playback using 2.01 the other day on a home laptop... video was very slow and blocky but VLC 1.x and MPCHD both worked fine... just a little buglet to watch out for I think...
