Just a note, this seems to be working in my portable apps version and only shows up once in a blue moon now.

    1. When does this effect VLC and what exactly is the bug etc ?

    2. Will they ever continue VLC on iOS Devices, as I have vlc on my iphone 4 but then they discontinued it and am curious if there is anyway to transfer it to a new iphone 4 as the one I have now is playing up in a number of ways ?

    Thanks

I doubt it - Apple are never going to allow apps without any DRM in the App Store. However, if you jailbreak your phone you can still get it from Cydia or Apptrackr.

But apple allow you to pay to have non DRM music ??

If there is a work around - does the work around only apply registry settings or what exactly, might be able to use something like reg shot and push out the reg changes if so, if its files and other items then might take a bit more work but am sure you could use GPO to push out the relevant changes

It is unlikely as Apples policies for the app store run counter to the GPL and one of their stroppy developers.

Forcing the standard (non-portable) version of VLC to use the dummy text renderer via a command-line switch (--text-renderer=dummy) seems to fix this issue too. If you add this to the start menu shortcut and any file-types which are associated with VLC you shouldn't see the "building font cache" popup at all. It would be nice to have the bug fixed properly though, as this is just a workaround.

If you still have the IPA file saved on your Mac, you should be okay (at least in theory).

    VLC v1.1.8 is out...

    http://www.videolan.org/vlc/releases/1.1.8.html

    What's new in v1.1.8
    • Security update regarding video width concerning some demuxers
    • Support for a new Dirac encoder based on libschroedinger
    • Package of the new VP8/Webm encoder 'Bali'
    • Notable updates in .mp4, .ogg, .ape demuxers
    • Major updates in most language translations
    • Fixes in skins2 supports of Winamp2 skins
    • Upgrade on the look of VLC for Mac OS X
    • Auto-detection for .txt subtitles is fixed
    • Fixes on Windows integration, notably regarding volume keys
    • Codecs updates
    • Many miscellaneous fixes

They also have a note regarding anti-virus software...

Yet again, broken anti-virus software flag the latest version of VLC on Windows as a malware. This is, once again, a false positive.

As some of the anti-virus makers plainly refuse to fix their code, we recommend to our users to stop using Kaspersky, AVL, TheHacker or AVG.

Users are advised to use the free Antivir or the new Microsoft Security Essentials. (Source)

    Hi Arthur,

Being the Install King, do you by any chance have an MSI for VLC or some pointers for me to create on myself?

    Many thanks in advance !

EDIT: dont worry, with help from your previous posts regarding the "trust driver" install, i have managed it myself!!!.

I do have an MSI for VLC actually, but it's for v1.1.7. However, if you can wait a few more days I should be able to post a link to the latest version.

I created it using WiX so you can see how it all works too.

Edit. Didn't see your update. If you still want it, just let me know.

They might have upgraded the GUI in terms of visually appealing but it porked up the playback of M2TS files, keep getting this random black rectangle / square in the middle of the video playback which I think is in relation to the supposdly translucent controller that normally floats over the top of the video ie fast forward / rewind, next chapter, previous chapter, volume control etc as per below

    iphone_alike_vlc_controller_by_leonico.jpg

Any ideas on how to fix this, I did try changing the video playback type to Open GL OS X Default as apposed to just default but still doing the same

Do you get the same issue if you play your M2TS videos with MPlayerX which also has a partially translucent UI?
