It has to be done from a Windows enviroment, not booted into via disk.

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307545 Might be of some help. However, to do what you specifically want:

    1. open up regedit
    2. click on HKLM
    3. click file
    4. load hive
    5. navigate to OtherDrive\WINDOWS\system32\config
    6. load ie. software
