    CompTIA A+

Just received the All In One guide buy Michael Meyers and I'm only half way through the second chapter, yet I have learned quite a few things about what I'm doing wrong. For instance I look pretty scruffy by most peoples definitions and in truth probably my own too, changing my appearance slightly may well give customers more confidence/trust in me.

I actually feel a bit disappointed in myself at how over the past couple of years I have allowed myself to slip. Does anyone else have experience of this kind of realisation?

What has your appearance got to do with a Comptia certification?

I appreciate what you are saying mate, I had a similar realisation when I was turning up in jeans and a tshirt.
If I wanted to be treated with respect I needed to dress the part and now I'm trousers/shirt and shoes. It has changed a lot of what people think of me and I'm glad because I like to think that I'm approachable at the best of times

*note* 'I like to think' not always the case *woof woof growl* :/

When I took and passed the A+ it was already about 5 years behind the times. I think I took it in 2003 and it was talking about win 95 and boot.ini

Just it mentions about how you should present yourself to the customer and also the different qualities a good PC tech should possess.

Which is fair enough, until you take into consideration that most salesman are smartly dressed and clean shaven, and look at what reputation they have.

    And what about Bankers?

True. Personally I don't think you can do much harm though in presenting yourself well. Also people don't generally have a problem with a salesperson until they get screwed over by them...or unless they try and sell you something you don't want (which incidentally the book does mention).

They include everything with percentages of use from across the globe. Mainly Windows XP at this moment in time but include brief overviews of other products. As with hardware, general desktop components, laptops and printers being the main percentage.

It has recently updated again, and does include Vista and Win7 now, think it only changed a few months back (November-ish?). Some of my technicians are doing it now.

Sadly my MCSA seems a little outdated... half the stuff I've learnt that I didn't know before I've subsequently found out has been replaced (e.g. RIS). Which is doubly annoying seeing as I'm genuinely doing it for the knowledge, and not the letters after my name

@ RIS - think that is now WDS ( does sysprep still work or is it still used or again has it been replaced with WDS )

@ Letters after your name - might end up with the alphabet if you continue lol

Re: WDS - yeah, something along those lines now? Not something I'm having to deal with right now, therefore something I'll actually learn later.

As for letters after my name, I'm still gunning for my Diploma In Computing...
