    Fibre Termination Course

Hi, has anyone got a recommended course for Fibre Optical Termination at all that they have been on or know someone who has?

I've got a lot to install at my place, and yes pre-term isn't badly priced but the pulling sock may make getting it through existing holes in walls, ceilings and voids a bit tight so some are better done in non-terminated and then terminating, but others can be easily accommodated in pre-terminated.

My thought would be to do the course so I know what I am doing and have a certificate then slowly build up my own kit of tools to do it and then hire the tester (or hire a full term and test kit which are starting to appear on-line). I've seen it done many times before in my previous job so isn't that bad so just feel now is the time for formal instruction and practice for me to make sure I were to be doing it right before saying yup we will do this on-site

    Cheers

Can you just hire a splice kit? You'd need to be doing fibre every other day to make it viable to have training/certs/tools etc

Surely you need to be trained to use them? As well as ensuring that you strip the fibre, shethes, protective jackets etc from it correctly. The last fusion splicer I saw used fine was easier than puks, IPA, and polishing on lapping film in figure of 8 motions

I posted about Fibre Optic courses here on Certforums. I found two, but will be going on the 1 day one on Friday (provided my registration goes thru in time ).

Both of the courses lets you gain BICSI CEC credits (if you need them). The 2 day one let you gain 15 hours worth, while the 1 day one gives you 7 hours.

As for prices the 2 day course is 500, however the one day course is 350

Like I said, provided my registration goes thru, I'll give feedback on how the course went

I did a one day laying/termination course with Techoptics

    Tech Optics Home Page

They supply cable/termination kits and I would highly recommend them.

There is a Holiday inn about 5 mins drive away, to stay while on your holiday The 3 people on the course, here's where they came from:

    Me: Wellingborough, Northants
Dave (also works in a school): Plymouth
3rd guy (forget his name, but he also did the Cat cabling course that was on the Thursday): Scotland

So a wide selection of people from all round the country, just to come to this course.
