I think that whilst FITS is a good idea it still relies of a level of manning and finacial expenditure that is just unrealistic for many schools due to either lack of funding or an unwillingless to invvest in their IT systems. Many here started in their jobs when they just had 50-70 desktop PC's and 1 or 2 servers to support. Over the past few years these numbers have ballooned to 300-400 systems and 5-6 servers without any increase at all in the numbers of staff supporting them, and until Becta actually recommends a suitable manning level\structure and financial commitment then FITS cannot be considered for many.

Re: Implementing best practice ICT management and support
Ok Folks
For the curious I am based in the gulf. I am working with four schools that did not have any ICT and now have it so FITs fits the bill. We are trying to find out what we have and where and I am also working with mainly inexperienced though well qualified people who are taking a lot of comfort in the structures provided by FITs.
It's true that I had my own documentation and experience before I came here but common sense or not this puts it all into one very comprehensive framework and I don't feel I am taking the Blue Peter approach but something that has a more consistent look and feel than my own stuff.
So there you have it . Curiosity satisfied?
