I think 50% of the new accounts are callumtuckey, and the other 50% have just signed up to flame me!
! Who owns Callum? How come he hasn't got bored yet? I thought kids these days had the attention span of ....oooo shiney red ball.

StewartKnight: not 50% maybe 5% hehe![]()
is that 5% for callumtuckey and 95% for the flaming?Originally Posted by bossman

erm... what are you guys talking about? :?

Callum was a young person who was a student IT Prefect / Tech who wasn't quite sure how to act on public forum, shall we say.
To be fair to him, since being banned and being asked to not to post by his boss he has done that.
Anyway, as has often been said, this forum was created at the right time and filled an area that was needed.
Had the forum been created 12 months later we would be nowhere near as successful.

This sort of site has been around in a number of places for some time. There are many mailing lists that vary in their traffic and UseNet always used to be good too.
The JISC lists for Tech Support had dried up a bit, flamewars on uk.education.schools-it meant that the technically minded members where looking for something else ... and many LAs were clamping down on how NMs worked with one another ...
It also meant that the right combination of people joined at the same time.
EduGeek.net will never be a one-stop shop for it all ... but it is a perfect place for many things, including as a stepping stone to more specific sites or lists.
Don't undersell yourselves here folks...
One of the prime reasons this place works so well is the example your provide, and practices you embody in the forum and its members.
It'd be easy to fall into the whole "flame" thing from time to time in a moment of weakness and speaking from experience elsewhere in the world of forums, it's something that takes a lot of hard work and reflection to get right so kudos to you all.. You may not be the whole but you're important cogs in the machine regardless.
aaa i see![]()

Agree with contink here - there's not many industries have such a vibrant and useful community. FFS I haven't set foot in a school since I was 12 (ok, slight exaggeration) and I would consider this place a top priority for answering many IT questions, despite the fact that i'm reasonably clued in myself. Despite the fact I only really logged on for business purposes (bit of research, occasional lead...) I really enjoy reading/posting here.
Only forums I post on - smoothwall.org, waccoe.com and here![]()
I agree with whats been said above as well. This is a very interesting forum because it deals with so many different aspects of IT, whereas many forums often only deal with one or two, such as web design.
Its a shame that we don't:
1. Get more non IT literate people (i.e. people who don't work in IT) here to ask their computer questions and get advice. This would then fulfil the statement in the footer of this site "... or just have a burning IT question you need an answer for, then please join in". If the general public only realised they can get much better advice on a forum like this then places like PC World...
2. Get more techies from areas outside of the UK. I think we could all learn much more from each other and get ideas from other areas of the world - I'm sure they differ very much to our own.

Shouldn't that be ooh squishy red noseOriginally Posted by Midget

If any schools have international links I would be interested in compiling a list and seeing what we can do ... we do have one staff member who volunteered to help with this but I have been too busy to get him any useful info to work with ...
A word about Callum, i think he fears GD now and doesn't want to come back here![]()
That and the fact he has just revealed that he has never heard of:
Pong (ok i can accept that)
PacMan
Space Invaders
Doom
Quake
Half Life
