Relevant Forum FAQ and prominent link to Wiki

With the rapid growth of the site it would be helpful to the newbs (and not so newb) to have a forum FAQ that actually deals with the subject matter of each forum.

The current 'forum FAQ' hotspot appears to be a generic FAQ from the original CMS code.

If the EduGeek wiki is meant to be the site FAQ then perhaps there should be a way of more tightly integrating it into the main site. Normally people only find about it in repsonse to a software deployment question.

Maybe there should be a reminder in the reg acknowledgement email or the initial PM from this Chris Byers dude-- whoever he is.

Re: Relevant Forum FAQ and prominent link to Wiki

The problem with doing forum based FAQs is that someone ... some poor unfortunate soul ... need to go through most of the posts in each forum and work out what the frequently asked questions are ...

Ideally this would be done by the site admins, the site staff or forum mods ...

We are thankful to those that already help out on the site and as it gets bigger and bigger the FAQs will take longer to create ... and don't get me started on maintaining FAQs.

At this point the usual request goes out to any interested individuals that would like to work on this. Something to do during the summer hols since we will all just be sat around drink tea or coffee and waiting for people to bring us a problem ...

A first tier FAQ with the basics would be good too tho'.

Once we started this, it'd be easier to maintain/ add to as more topics were covered/ time went on. A lot of the regular users + admins have already some idea on where those key threads are. I'd certainly be up for it anyway.

You can do the ir*ning FAQ dooksie k [blimey - hope I haven't disturbed the force in the fraterninty!!]

lot of this is historic reasons bag in the begining when we setup the wiki there wasn't a stable wiki for dragonfly so it was installed on my hosting.

I have been thinking about this for a while and if it is wise idea to move wiki across to the wiki that can be integrated into the site more...

something I am about to start is a new roadmap for edugeek both on development side and non-development side so i will probably add wiki integration onto that...

As for FAQ as tony said anyone want to volunteer to help out with that...
