Just a thought folks but given that you're using phpBB2 can I highly recommend installing a few bot mods like the "botsmod" to help reduce the amount of "visitors" when the are busy spidering the forum.
There's a few other reasons to consider it as well like making it more SEO friendly and thus this place easier to find..
But while you're at it, I'd highly recommend the Crackertracker mod too for improved security...
Right, I'm going to shutup now and stop talking mods.. bane of my life I tell ya!

Thanks for the links, but this particular phpBB2 forum is also embedded into the Dragonfly CMS system which has it's own security measures and adding in extra components may 'break' us, and seeing as our backup is over 200meg it would be a 'bad thing'.

We decided long ago to stop doing anything unnessecery, because as much as we all like to poke and prod at things we can no longer risk outage.

Shame it isn't the oath of the local power company ... another power cut today ... 10 mins this time. Everything had nearly finished shutting down just as the power came back on ...
