Hi all,
With the introduction of Live@Edu and the intergration of the SkyDrive, does anyone know if their is / upcomming an administration pack for the sky drive regestered to my live@edu domain, so we can access / restrict files and folders for the students so it is simular to the policy in place on the school network?

I think MS discontinued skydrive for live@edu and you need to upgrade to office365 or google apps
SkyDrive is very much a part of Live@edu - and is also a free service that anyone can sign up to. It is, however, a consumer service and therefore doesn't have any management tools - think of it as a cloud hosted USB memory stick.Quote:

The google equivalent, gdrive, is nicely integrated into google apps with associated management tools.
Ye it's a shame there wasn't a way to run Skydrive via Office 365, can understand why it's been replaced but the Sharepoint space is a) smaller and b) harder to integrate. Manually signing up with a separate login isn't a workable solution so SkyDrive is effectively finished once the 365 migration kicks in.
Until we upgrade I'm considering not provisioning any more Live@Edu accounts as it might end up confusing people with who gets SkyDrive (old accounts) and who doesn't (any new ones after the upgrade).
After waiting so long for a Windows SkyDrive app and a web API we need something similar to access Office 365 files. Maybe there's a way using Windows native capability being that it's just connecting to a Sharepoint site?
Yes, you'll love it as you don't need no stinky app at all. Just map it as a mapped drive to the URL:Quote:

So we could map a drive for every student on login to a private sharepoint online "my documents"?
If so... wow!
Should work, you'd need one hell of a net connection though. Hopefully they look at augmenting BranchCache so that it can act as in intermediary for it. This would probably make the whole lot run quite smoothly even with a standard network connection.Quote:

What is interesting is how the kids could access this data easily. Sharepoint isn't the most user friendly interface in the world :)
Great stuff, the downside for me is how much MS have reduced the storage in 365... 500MB free per student is nothing these days and there's no way we can be paying for additional storage...
This is the other concern I have, not keen on the Sharepoint interface for file management nor the 365 initial landing page tbh ... might be able to disguise it somewhat with custom links from Moodle but not idealQuote:

95% of our students have under 100mb in their user areas.
It is a big drop from skydrive though which is a shame. We were just getting students using it but this does seem like an adequate replacement with even some new functionality.
Lets hope they release an iPad add like they did for skydrive.

which seems to indicate that it is possible to link SkyDrive with "My Documents" and integrate it to AD. Not qute sure how this would work with Office 365 though...
Nice find, sounds messy and more additional cost though. Imo either let the students use personal accounts and be done with it or provision internally. Trying to mix and match the two seems neither here nor there.
Yes, I agree it needs to be either one or the other. I'm currently looking at a SAN + backup solution for data files, and I have to say that 7GB of free storage per user and no backup to worry about does sound quite tempting. (Not to mension anytime/wanywhere access).
If any one has any experience with this, please let me know - not sure I'm brave enough to go first!
