Have you ensured that you have marked 'Lync Online' as the intent on the sub-domain?
I've set up Microsoft Lync on Office 365, I've set up firstname.lastname@example.org and Lync works fine on this after adding all the DNS info, however when I set up email@example.com no matter what I do it won't allow them to sign on?
I've added all the TXT, CNAME info for the subdomain however I feel I've missed something?
Anyone got a bright idea? I'm stuck now.
I've also created a test account to try it out, its trying to find the SSL details from the hosting company but not lync online for the sub domain?
These are the details on my DNS management....
sip.domain.com > sipdir.online.lync.com
lyncdiscover.domain.com > webdir.online.lync.com
sip.sub.domain.com > sipdir.online.lync.com
lyncdiscover.sub.domain.com > webdir.online.lync.com

Ah right, it wasn't a federated domain..
The following lists the services that you'll use with this domain. To make changes, click Edit domain intent.
Exchange Online Yes
Lync Online No
Sharepoint Online No
I've changed the settings and it's given me some additional CNAME / TXT records to add to DNS management.
Think I've done it! - Thanks for the useful website address
