@jamesbmarshall - I'm struggling trying to enable the Address Book Policies via the Powershell.

I am following the guide from this page :

Address Book Policy Procedures: Exchange Online Help

I am trying to use the Get-TransportConfig command but I get an error saying that it is unrecognized?

I thought that it might be an unassigned Role but I have made sure I am a member of all relevant roles so its not that. I have also set the Set-ExecutionPolicy to RemoteSigned. I am trying to connect Powershell to the service, as outlined here Connect Windows PowerShell to the Service but that gives me an error to do with WinRM being unable to connect. I have made sure this is allowed through my windows firewall (I think? Which port does this use?) but no joy.

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks

    Hi,

After installing to PowerShell Console, Run the Command Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted

Once you have done this, Go ahead and then run the following commands (you can past the entire process in at then enter your Tenancy Username and Password when prompted)

    $Cred = Get-Credential

    $Session = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri https://ps.outlook.com/powershell/ -Credential $Cred -Authentication Basic –AllowRedirection

    Import-PSSession $Session

    Import-Module MSOnline

    Connect-MsolService –Credential $Cred

Once you have done this, you will be connected to the Microsoft Online Services via PowerShell.

If you get any errors, can you send them on here and I can help you further.

    I hope that helps,

    Regards,
    James.

Have you seen the following KB Article? Is this relevant to you: Error message in Windows Server 2008 R2 or in Windows 7 when you try to connect to a remote server: "Server Manager cannot connect to <server_name>"

Are you connecting to the Service using your Desktop Computer or Windows Server?

I'm connecting using my Windows 7 client. However I am connecting to the Office 365 online system so that article is of no use as I don't have access to the server to enable those features....?? I would have thought it would already be enabled?

It's not even letting you connect to the Online Service... and it should do! (normal stuff..) I need to investigate why your having issues connecting to the Online Services via PowerShell I've not personally come across that error before to be honest.

Do you have any 3rd Party Tools like Synmantec EndPoint Protection on your Client Machine?

    No, just Sophos anti-virus.

Interestingly, I can connect using this method:

    Code:
    $cred = get-credential

    connect-msolservice - credential $cred
I have already used this in order to assign user licenses in bulk etc. However in order to setup ABP's I need to be able to use the Set-Mailbox and Set-TransportConfig commands which come up as being unrecognized commands

This is why I thought I should be connecting via the method you mentioned

Yes, You will be able to connect via that method because your not importing any kind of session and that is the part that is failing when we are importing the Exchange Session Information so that we can get the relevant PowerShell Commandlets.

    $Session = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri https://ps.outlook.com/powershell/ -Credential $LiveCred -Authentication Basic -AllowRedirection

That is the important part, which is currently not working for you.

Can you try this from a computer that is just a General Windows Build?

    James.

OK, just tried doing the above from the server where ADFS is installed and it worked perfectly!

Could I have the wrong version of something installed on my Windows 7 machine?

I always manage my Environments via the ADFS / Exchange On-Premise (Hybrid) Server If I have one available, but no it is more than likely an issue with some kind of Desktop Software / Group Policy that you have in place because It works on my Windows 8 Machine without any problems.

    James.

Fair enough, I can just use the server to make the setting changes that I need. I will play around at some point and find out what is blocking it though. Thanks for the help!

    FIGURED IT OUT!!!!

I know why I couldn't connect from my machine but could from the server - very simply I forgot to use the following command on my Win 7 desktop:

    Code:
    netsh winhttp import proxy ie
I had done that on the server during the setup of the ADFS. Working a treat now

This is not an official response, but from what I know on the support front depending on how complex your Office 365 Tenant is i.e. if you use ADFS/Hybrid/SSO/DirSync etc. the later you will be upgraded or the fact you may be postponed as when your tenancy is reviewed they may see fit to hold back on your upgrade if they should see complexities. I have various complex deployments that have been held back, but I have had others that don't have SSO/Hybrid etc. and they have been upgraded first because it's a straight forward upgrade.

Like I say, this could not be case and something else might be occurring but that is what I would suspect.

    Regards,
    James.
