I'm sorry to be the bearer of good news but at least everyone will see that there is another side of the coin as I know others on here are also working well below the true grade of their job

Just got an email from my head and he's says I'll be moving to Grade 7

Now I don't do a "Network Manager" job (e.g running hundreds of clients/1000 users) but I just don't do a technician job either as I am responsible for ICT procurement (approx 30K/year) and I do HLTA work for a fair percentage of my time.

Now I am pleased that my skills and workload are going to receive proper recompense but on the other hand I might actually be priced out of a job at some of my schools as they are looking at a 20% cost increase!

We'll just have to see what happens next April when they have to sign up for the new price!

I'm glad they haven't tried to stick you in at a lower grade, that is really good news and you will now get a reasonable grade. This will be good news for many people I have spoken to before as I secretly cringed when they have commented about their current salary in the same county as a Network Manager and I didn't dare say they were on the same salary as a Technician role at our school. There will be more winners from this I am sure as many have gone undervalued for a long time and for that I am truly happy. The wage is still nowhere comparable to other sectors but that is a discussion for another day.
For me, I love working in education as you are a name and not just a number, you really feel the impact of your work and you get involved in all sorts of technical and non technical areas which you would not get involved in another sector.

Glad to hear it si, I've been told I'll be moving to grade 7 as well, which is a lot better than scale 5 for being a network manager like I am now.

Roll on Jan 1st when it gets implemented now.

I’ve just had my meeting with the head and been told I’m moving up to grade 6 point 24. Will this kick in from Jan or April 2012? I’ve tried looking online but can not find anything.

I'm sure that if you do a lot more your school could categorize you as something else, under another name and give you the appropriate grade. This would overcome the problem surely?

scale 5 for being a network manager like I am now.
"They've" got away with this sort of thing for a long time.

I feel sorry for the net managers+ that are losing out - but remember - if your manager really really valued you, yourself and they wanted to keep you - they'd be the ones coming up with creative ideas!

If they just want someone to do the job of a Network Manager at the going rate, then they've been given a nice big hammer to do it with

Don't take ANYTHING I say here as even being possibly true but my head is worried that it will be back dated to April 2011!

I don't think he's right and my GUESS would be Jan 2012 start.

I wonder what the rules are when your bumped up - do you go to bottom of new grade or similar point within the grade (I'm currently on point 20 on old APT Scale 4(equiv to point 20 on Grade5)?

@mark182 from what I've been told, it should kick in from the 1/1/12. If you are due to go down then you get 1 year pay protection, not sure if there will be any back pay or not.

On a different note I've been told by our sbm that the school have recommended that I go over as ict manager on scale 7, got fingers crossed that the epr team don't have any problems with the schools recommendation and send my letter through in October to notify me.

    @LukeC
You need to be talking to your Line Manager to see what role they've put you in and check you agree with it.

Just remember to argue the role and not the grade of the role.

AFAIR there were three roles that attracted Grades 4, 5 or 6.

    HI

I have just been told that personnel are going to write to staff in phase 2. SLT have made no comments and will not even given an indication of when.

Nice to know that as well as not really valuing you in monetary terms - they don't in other ways as well
