According to the local rag, it has now unfortunately reached our county, and many of my colleagues are very worried about losing money.

How do you feel about it? I have no idea what 'family' they will put IT support staff in.
Thanks for your comments.

12th October 2010, 10:17 AM #2 It is going to affect alot of people in alot of different ways, but the idea of putting people in job families is beyond wrong!

14th October 2010, 02:56 PM #4 We are being shafted right royally on this one. Has only taken them 13 years to get to this point and now they are rushing it through.
No idea what we will be paid until after all the appeals are sorted.
Talk about getting the best from your workforce; demotivation, worry and uncertainty is the key to great service.

14th October 2010, 03:05 PM #5 I agree. It's a disgrace.
The worst thing is, you won't know your salary, just your family grade until after the deadline to appeal. How are you supposed to know whether to appeal or not?!
To be honest, I'm more interested in whether or not I can make my financial commitments than what family grade the council guess I should be in!

14th October 2010, 03:08 PM #6 It would be interesting to find out what 'family' all the other network managers in the area are given, than we would have an idea if the regrade matches the responsibilities.

19th October 2010, 09:00 AM #9 The school's letters have been delayed due to "Some schools not engaging in the process fully". End of October at the earliest.
Can't imagine why any sane person would engage fully with the process. It was clearly dreamt up in an asylum.

19th October 2010, 09:05 AM #10 There will be uproar if everyone is forced into a substantial pay cut. A lot of staff don't get what they deserve anyway, the likes of the TA's etc.
I have heard of several council workers who have been regraded at the lowest possible post. One person has seemingly lost 7K. Every single worker will end up appealing, which will slow the process down even further.
It sounds like the unions are powerless, which makes me wonder why the hell I've been paying them for 5 years. This is the only time I've needed them!

19th October 2010, 09:13 AM #11 This has happened in Northants, with some school support staff having pay cuts of over 30% imposed upon them.

stevenewman, do you know what a typical network manager was regraded as in Northants?

19th October 2010, 09:58 AM #13 The Unions argued for this in the first place (everyone doing the same job should be paid the same regardless of ability, responsibility or the role of the organisation), they have only themselves to blame.
First and foremost it is a cost cutting exercise so not expecting good news.....

20th October 2010, 12:02 PM #14 The crazy part is that AFAIK you only get to appeal when you see which job family you've been put into, ie. BEFORE your pay grade is assigned.
The worrying part is that the pay grades will be assigned AFTER the cuts today.
I've joined a union for the first time ever and I'm TRYING not to think about it as if I do I just won't function, sleep or anything

20th October 2010, 12:20 PM #15 I wonder if this thread should be moved to prompt a response nationwide to see what has happened in other countys? If so, how do you move it? Maybe into the general forum or behind the red door.
