I think the real problem is not so much county but the head teacher, they are the ones who have actualy been deciding what to class people as. I wouldn't put it past some twisting things a little to save money. To be quite honest I think I would rather deal with county directly. I dont hold out much hope of getting any satisfaction from my head and suspect Im just going to have to take my appeal through to stage 2 and get my case reviewed properly by county themselfs.

My IT technician has also mysteriously changed family, but he hadn't appealed as he was happy with his allocation. As such he doesnt even have an appeal to fall back on over this issue - how messed up is that!!

What was your technician on and what have they changed him to now?

He had been allocated the same as me initialy OS4A (the basis for my appeal was that I should of been at a higher level than him, and also my management and training of him hadn't been taken into account), but has also now been moved to PCD4A. In all honesty he had got a good allocation but then he does do alot of higher level work not just basic support.

It sounds like your technician should be on PCD4A and you should have stopped on OS4A. It's still all over the shop as we range between OS, OP, PCD and RT. PCD is still the wrong family for him as it is seen as a pastoral role and I can't see how he fits into it. He definitely would've won the lottery if he'd stopped in the OS family which is typically management. We should be getting our letters this afternoon but I won't hold my breath!

how have people been getting on with this single status? we have just had our 2nd phase letters back and no changes have been made. Put in for phase 3 appeal and will have to wait and see what happens. I am an ICT Technician whose job profile has been matched to a ICT Technician for a media department (profile OP3A), and despite telling them they have matched me with an incorrect job description nothing has been changed! very very confusing.

^ That's me. They used my 'unique' job evaluation, ICT Service Assistant (Media), and then used it for two other people, so you must be one of them. I didn't know anything about it until after Stage 1, and I didn't get to go to the appeal because of it!

I don't just do media, I probably do about 10% media support and 90% IT support, that was just my original job title when I started my job.

Well Im still trying to get my allocation corrected. I sent off a stage 3 form last week after both stage 1 and 2 resulted in no change. It would seem that the appeal process is all about checking the level of the groups people were assigned to, rather than checking if an individual has actualy been correctly assigned to the right group!

After recieving my stage 2 result it was obvious they were not looking at people individualy so I phoned up the help line to ask about it. I got told I had to talk to my head about getting it changed as he had the power to sort it out. He isn't sure how to acuratley assess the correct assignments so called county for advice about it, unfortunatley they have not got back to him yet so Im stuck in limbo for the time being.

Whilst the stage 3 appeal still seems to be talking about groups rather than individuals I have put one in just to cover all my bases. I attached a cover note on bright yellow paper with big writing stating I needed an individual review in the slight hope of someone paying some attention to it!

My technician has been in contact with my union and from the information he got back their impression is that at the most a stage 3 review would lead to a recomendation, the ultimate decision would lie with the school.

I dont like the fact that there seems to be so little influence by county on ensuring individuals are assigned properly. It surely defeats the purpose of the entire exercise as they will end up with so many people miss matched they will still leave themselfs open to equal pay claims?!

Well funnily enough we were told by our senior management that they don't have anything to do with the whole process and that it's all to do with the council. Our dep. head says that she hasn't received any information and claims to not know what is happening and who is appealing etc. So it's obvious with all the different information being slung about that there are some major BS'ers at work somewhere!

The amount of miss information and buck passing is beyond belief! I do wonder if its becoming an excuse for money saving. By the draging of heels and use of delaying tactics they maybe hope people will just give up fighting for a fair allocation. At my school quite a few people have given up appealing even though they are clearly in the wrong place and have a good case to put for being reallocated.

Yes we've came to that conclusion too. Some of the menials (us support staff within the school) that were allocated more money in the original process have now been told that they've been moved down a few notches but unsuprisingly the fat cats above have actually gained quite a few grand and can actually keep their huge bonus.

My issue is that they looked at the toolkit and went down the wrong column. During the first stage appeal, the single status jobsworth agreed that I was given the wrong column and that it was human error. Stage 2 came and nothing was changed and they had the cheek to say that I hadn't submitted enough evidence even though I sent them a copy of the toolkit with big arrows pointing down the correct column, along with a detailed explanation. I have now sent them all vouchers for SpecSavers.

I think blind panic is the driving force behind all of the county's decisions. If I do not get any new contract / notice of dismissal by the 31st of May then they have missed their deadline and my terms and conditions cannot be changed until after the 1st september (I have 3 months notice). This means that they are in breach of the terms of the court settlement which stops people suing the county for inequitable terms and conditions, this protection runs out on the 1st September 2011. They have had seven years since the court judgement to sort this out and only began in earnest last november.......as I said blind panic.

At least the Leadership and Management family job roles are all sorted though.......

Well Im arranging another meeting with my head along with my technician so we can try and get some more information from him about whats going on. Hopefully by going in with someone else we can apply a bit more preasure to get some progress made, but maybe Im being a bit optimistic!

The other one is the other technician here. It's funny because our media department is tiny and as such requires no specialist technical support, yet the school feels that it needs two full time technicians!
