There seems to be a corporate mindset to only reveal technical information when they have to - and usually not timely and usually by the most indirect information route known to mankind - The Portal
I've been around long enough (here and in Lancs) to know how things work I've never known it as bad this week as it has been for us (a combination of the en-masse issues and our own local mast problems which affected us in the first half the week).

I said thorough which need not be "long winded" but merely just to the point and no beating about the bush (yes, I know it's a long shot and I have only made that opinion clear on here, so likely will make no difference ).

The only consolation for us is that, as far as we're still aware, our fibre install is due to be finalised and connected next week which will at least raise moral somewhat after this very trying week..

They generally use the words firewall/dns/proxy/filter interchangably as just replacement word for "big problem somewhere"

Bit like myself when talking to headteachers actually

Hey, I am letting off steam - it's been a very testing week! At least if I think they may do something positive (say something meaningful) it makes me feel better

The Lancashire CLEO Network is like Flash Forward at the moment, predicting the next blackout isn't possible .. although given there are a number of autistic children in my school, I might give them the information and see if they can predict when the next outage will be .. lol ..

On a serious note, let's hope that whatever went wrong is sorted now and that whatever new things they've put in place work better than what there was before.

I've emailed Westfield to ask if they are going to let us know what happened. An outage of that length is pretty bad given the reliance upon online services such as VLEs.

Indeed .. the only bonus to it being out so long is that is was someone else's fault, so when the staff came with their pitchforks and torches, I gave them the Westfield Centre's address .. lol ..

Nice to see that they have responded and added https to the 'Site Review Request page'

But as paying customers, do we not deserve some sort of official response, or are they worried that
they might not be able to bull there way out of it.

yeee, elephant ran into server room again!! sorry!

I did get a response from Westfield this morning regarding the outage. An official response will be posted on the Westfield site and on here once all the relevant people have agreed on it.

One of my schools reported problems to me at 3:30 and I went along.

    Basically couldn't get on primaryresources.co.uk.

Westfield said they knew about problems with accessing the site (filter doesn't like number of adverts on the site) but thought they'd been dealt with.

It does make you think - are Lancs the first LEA to use Netsweeper in this country?

    regards

    Simon
