1989 Mini Mayfair - non-running
On my driveway is a 1989 Austin Mini Mayfair with no engine in it. The engine is in the garden, well covered up.
The backstory? Son bought it to do up during his gap year but couldnt get a full-time job so never did it. Other son got engine out and replaced gasket (mini was leaking oil when bought). That's as far as it went.
The engine turns over and seems OK. The car is in fairly good nick - except for the tyres now.
He is looking for about £550 for it
I know not many of you live down this way but there might be an enthusiast you know who could be interested?

I'll ask around... i know a couple of people who have been mini lovers in the past and might go for a new project!

Sound like you could put that on eBay or other specilaist car auction site and get it snapped up. Buyer collects BTW
Old style Minis will always be in demand.

We have looked at specialist car auctions but we would have to get it there and we have no way of doing that. ebay is a possibility but he wants to avoid paying out any money if possible

Shame you're so far away from me
Must have been a big oil leak to warrant taking the engine out, minis leak fact

Have you got any pictures of the car at all. To say that I am a mini lover is an understatement and have owned my beloved 'Maria' since I was 12, I have now grown up a little lol and am now 18.

He could post it up and say he would prefer to see the buyer so the trade can be done properly, that way he does the deal, gets the cash in hand, and then he can cancel his auction

It might be worth putting it on Pistonheads.

If we had somewhere to keep it, I'm sure my dad would love another Mini as a project car. We currently have a Mini Cooper (can't remember what year, think it's on an M plate) and my dad was thinking about re-shelling it.

Aha - I never was very advanced!
The engine had to come out because the oil leak was somewhere at the bottom and just couldnt be reached. It was a big one though - can't guarantee it is fixed, either
You are all a long way away apart from tomgrindle

Here are some pictures - the slightly odd choices are due to me trying to show the rust situation in places where minis tend to rust!
