Have you been out and tried a few cameras. The main reason I went for Nikon was because I found the grip much better then any of the entry level cameras.

It really is a superb camera for the money... just add a fast prime later on (the 35mm is very good) and the 55-200mm VR or 70-300mm VR can be saved up for if you need them.

I have tried a few, admittedly not any Nikon's though. However, I do really like the feel of the Canon's (all of them I've tried have felt pretty much the same in the hand, albeit the 1D feeling much more robust than the entry level's). The main thing though is that I have family with Canon's, and my missus now has a Canon, so there are plenty of lenses about I can play with...

If I saw a real bargain on a Nikon I might consider though, and I'm still not completely put off the idea of a Sony... if nothing else, I could probably pick up a decent used Sony and a couple of lenses for what I'd pay for a Canon with kit lens!
