    HP ProCurve 4208vl spares

I have an HP ProCurve 4208vl as my core switch at them moment, and at the Microsoft conference a few weeks ago I was chatting to someone who said they might be looking to offload some spares they have for this model. Unfortunately I can't remember who it was!

If you remember that conversation, or anyone else has spares going, please let me know how much you might want for them. I'm OK for copper modules (though if they are gigabit and the price is right I probably won't turn them down) but would be particularly interested in power supplies, mini-GBIC modules, or even a chassis.

    Thanks in advance,
    AT

I would go Layer 3 at the core....the 5406 is a better choice here and has a faster backplane...use the 4208 at the edge...
also look at bundling these devices to get redundant kit...and things like extra modules and power supplies for a cheaper price...

Yep, I know the 5400 series is a better choice, but having seen quotes for replacing the entire unit (given that I have 64x Gb copper and 8x mini-GBIC in there), I can't afford it right now.

I can, however, afford some spares for if and when the 4208 falls over.

If you find out who that was and if they have anything you don't want I'd love a second psu for my 2nd 4108GL if it fits?

If you've owned one of these from new don't forget that it and all parts have a lifetime warranty.

True but having some redundant parts in stock will expedite our own solution whilst waiting for delivery from HP.

Indeed - last time I needed to claim on the ProCurve warranty it took them over a month to supply the replacement. Their excuse was that it was an older model (a 2650) and they had trouble finding stock.

I would say the 4208vl is also an older model and don't hold out much hope for a quick replacement from HP if I needed it.
