Why would anyone be doing that?

Sky+ I can understand if they've upgraded or I suppose they might if they've bought a freesat tv or something.

Maybe they are moving, left Sky etc.

Need a new box as my Sky+ box as mine likes to record programs with only half the sound. So thought I would try and replace with a HD one.

Does the HD sky boxes work with BBC HD without paying the £10 a month to sky for the HD channels?

I was thinking about taking sky up on their £75 upgrade but at the moment i need a box with component out, and the new boxes don't.

There are a lot of retailers that sell the boxes standalone. Thats what I did and I paid about £200 for a new box with a years warranty. Sky may let you get the last gen HD box if you ask also.

    I use one of these:

    Fortec Star Satellites

Doesnt have a disk for recording though, or Sky's GUI, but means I can interchange my ART, Polsat and Sky cards in the one reciever.

Could you just not use a Scart to Component cable?

dont you mean composite? If you want HD he would need to use component or HDMI (or vga but thats not on sky box's)
