It's alright the Government saying it want to provide low cost housing for "key workers" such as teachers, but they get paid a fortune, especially compared to tecchies and teaching assistants. I genuinely believe that a lot of the teachers I've met, are teachers because they couldn't get a job in "the real world". I've yet to meet an ICT teacher who could do ICT!

    How true lol

    (following edited: )
Some teachers (to clarify to any teachers reading, I dont mean "all teachers" so dont instantly take offense) these days seem to be here for the ££, not because they particularly want to educate the kids or anything. I think this is part 'n' parcel of the lack of discipline I see with the younger/newer teachers these days. I'm not ranting for the sake of it, its just what I've observed from some newer teachers thats all

No bashing intended here - just the facts the way i see them

    You're not wrong.

    Work 1hr
    30 min break
    Work 1hr
    1hr Break
    Work 1hr
    15 min break
    Work 1hr
    Go home

factor in free periods, then add summer holidays, other random holidays and skives and I think you'll find they get paid well for doing not much.

And then they have the audacity to whine about it all day long. omg boohoo.

Can you imagine any of them doing anything other than being a teacher?

I came back to working in education, because I thought it would be nice and relaxing after returning from working in a warzone, I was even considering training as a teacher. Turns out dealing with these idle retards is far more stressful, and I could never work alongside them.

(not having the protection of 'not working for the LEA' is a nightmare)

My brother in law who works in a school down the road who is a senior technician (second in command) is on 26,000

his boss is on around £29,000. Not a bad wage!

we are based in the south west - ooh arr!

Some schools are prepared to pay! You just have to find them.

No teacher bashing please. We need them to stay employed, no matter how troublesome they sometimes are!

Re: How much do you earn and in what post?

yes as much as there are some teachers who are known not to work hard i am sure there are some it techies who are the same..

I do know lot of teachers who work till come 10 at night on work...

remeber a lot of teachers days do not stop at 3:30...

I think point of thread is that we techies do just as much work as teachers and so should be paid on simlair scale...

Re: How much do you earn and in what post?

A shade under £20K. Network Manager. School recently got Specialist Status for Maths & Computing. I'm sole ICT support for a school with a largish site. Around 250 workstations, three servers, 5 ICT suites. Several workgroups. 3 wireless mobile classrooms. Cover around 20KM per day. My line manager seems to think I'm idle and is on my back constantly, despite all evidence to the contrary. Because he has set up his little workgroup at home, he thinks he is now an expert on networking systems, although he doesn't understand why file servers are more expensive than desktops. He doesn't understand why a good hardware support contract on your servers is valuable. He doesn't understand why wireless systems do not have the bandwidth or throughput of hard wired systems, but he is SLT and can shaft me at his leisure.

    Ideas anyone?
