our lea were supposed to consolidating technican pay across the county, since september, but nothing seems to have happened.
I'm basically senior technican being the only 'do-er' to have stayed for so long(11 years or so). however on paper i'm still the same as the technican who joined 6 months ago. i can never remember my scale, but i work pro rata having refused full time. now i get 1k in my bank per month, which probably equates to about £14k full time.

is actually £18,000, or there abouts, so you're paid more than you thought!

it turns out i get family tax credit which are added after deductions.

so my basic pay is £13,092 + 1800 tax credit

of the 14 weeks i dont work is some paid holiday?

by my calculations(+10weeks) working full time would add about £3700 which would be £16,700. which still seems a bit poor for the time i've been here.

Well, our Single Status Agreement has been finalised & I'm getting put up to almost 16k as of 1st October, which is about a £2500 rise!

The only downside is that all the other members fo the technicians department are getting pay cuts!

That is similar to what happened with me Rob. The SENCO was told they weren't replacing her admin. assistant cos the money had gone to fund my raise! The SENCO has since left so i'm no longer constantly faced with that guilt trip!

When you bear in mind that most of the SENCO and TAs at my last school used to be dinner ladies, I can't see how you can justify paying them more than a skilled IT tech.

Re: How much do you earn and in what post?

    Wow!

This forum is great. I think (though I'd have to ask my accountant--the wife--) I get in the region of £15,500 pro rata from September. We have over 400 desktop systems, over 100 admin systems running Lesson Monitor and SIMS; and approaching 150 laptops. All this is powered by nine servers fulfilling various roles. I have over me a Systems' Manager who will be part time in September and we have just taken on an ICT Technician.

I have an HNC in Computer and Network Support and various certs. and a dimploma in PC Repair, but the school have just paid out £3700 so that I can complete my HND in Systems Administration. I felt choked to be honest when they offered to do it. So that kind of bumps my pay up very nicely I think.

I can't say it enough, but Kingswood School have been a perfect employer. The head (David Tristram) is superb, and the Systems Manager (Allan Greig) has been a very good co-worker and friend through my first year there.

    So- I'm happy.

Sounds to me though like many of you deserve a lot more recognition for the hard work you are putting in- and some of this should come through in benefits, training and pay (of course).

    I hope you get it!

Re: How much do you earn and in what post?

@ a large school in North London (2000 pupils, 800wkstns) I was making 37k + bonus + benefits. Though I was employed by the PFI company not the school.

I know of an 'IT Technical Manager' role going (not yet advertised) in Dewsbury, Yorkshire - paying around the 25k mark.

If you want me to get a CV in front of the right ppl, need to do it quick - I'm leaving the education sector at the end of the month \o/.

In my first school I remember being told that my annual training budget was £200 per annum and I was not allowed to 'roll over' the amount to accumulate enough to do any affordable ICT courses.
As you can imagine, I didn't do any courses in the 3 years I was there.

Looking at it in context though. 37K is not alot for a London wage. Many of us here who live in northern counties earn far less, but have a far higher standard of living, without all of the hassles that living in London entails. It's not a post to knock London, but just one to make people realise that figures can be deceptive. Heh!, I remeber paying a visit to an old army friend of mine who had brough a flat in Twickenham. It was the upstairs of a terraced house and had one bedroom, a living room and a kitchen. He had to convert the attic into a second bedroom. He sold it for £250,000. If you were to suggest to anyone iving in the North (where we have the monopoly on terraced houses) that their entire house could be worth £500,000 they would laugh at you.

you must be kidding! Here in Cumbria / Lake District, the house prices are so high, and wages so low, none of the locals can afford to buy, and are forced to rent. The only people who can afford to live in Cumbria are rich Londoners. :x

    Same here - I think it's 2k as well.

This means I wont be doing any "good" courses anytime soon

lol agreed. Not that I'm big into buying a house or anything but when I've looked at the estate agents around here, then cheapest going is about 110k! Might not be much to other places, but its still alot to someone who doesn't get the pay to get one lol

Property is indeed a nightmare in London, part of the reason we moved away to be honest- though I miss the social side now.

I used to pat ~200 quid/week on a good 1 bed flat in West Hampstead (a nice spot - took me ages to find a flat at a sensible price too) I now pay 550 per month on a 3 bed terrace. Although I'm not making much more than I used to down in London I *really* notice the difference in dispoable income living up here.

Not keen on yorkshire tho - think I'm going to move to the lancs side of the pennines asap!
