Im trying to work out if I can get more money towards school printing costs
Can you let me know the following:
1. If you have a separate print budget?
2. How much money is allocated annually to printing in your school?
3. How many pupils you have on your school roll?
We have no budget and are on target to spend 35k this year!
1750 students 200 staff
900 girls on roll
11k printing budget
for those who feel like they arent getting value for money on there printer consumable purchasing, please send us a spreadsheet of your toner requirements and the current pricing you have from your supplier to the email address below and we will see if we can make you a noticeable saving,
We look forward to hearing from you,

we recharge all printing to departments because we where spending way too much on printing. Making departments pay for it has reduced it by 75%. Basically they only now print what they need to. They are charged on a monthly basis, these are passed onto the finance manager who did the transferal of funds between budgets.
2. Circa 8k
ICT suites plus staff areas 6.5k this year
We don't do bad for printing as we have printer credits and the staff who don't have a department printer are limited on their personal credits.
£5.5K (overspent already - thanks to an increase in the photocopy charge to faculties)
btw we don't cover the photocopiers - that's another budget.
I'm not sure any of my primaries ever had a budget but I do know my first school went from wasting £1k on average a year buying inkjets + cartridges, and then letting them dry out to because no-one knew how to change the cartridges...
So, I arrived with two CIS Epson C84's and (then) experimental CIS kits and blew the budget to £1.5k in the first year BUT the savings were close to £3k compared to OEM consumables.
Nowadays we're saving around £2.5k or so with a spend around £800 (+about £200 required for maintenance) a year for inks and the occasional replacement printhead.
15k for 700 pupils and 80 staff. On target to be less than that though due to me being a BOFH this year when it comes to replacing ink
We spend arround 1.2K each month sometimes we can get away without getting for a month. It does come out of another budget.
