Software for an inventory
i dunno where to really post this but here goes. Im after some sofwtare to inventorise all the IT equipemnt within the school, within this inventory i will require to record teh detaisl of teh Item such as MAC address, Machine name, IP address, serial number, assest number (assigned by me when inventorising) room, Type of network card, and possible the main components such as CPU, hard drive, amount of RAM etc.
Would be much appreciated if so one could point me in the direction of free software to help me do this inventory. Many thanks

25th March 2008, 05:18 PM #7 I use spiceworks as well, it has a lot of functionality not only as an inventory system but also as a call logging help desk as well. I have had minor problems, however these have been resolved the same day just by reading the FAQs, plus this was on an older version, these seem to have been resolved now.
I also use Newt Freeware, this gives you everything in a spreadsheet format, such as OS, version, service packs, current logged on users, HADD, CPU speed, memory, and a host of other things, unlike Spiceworks this is just a simple App exe which you run and saves all the time setting up spiceworks.
This is where I get NEWT from:

Hope this helps...

Yes, can be a bit sluggish at times when browsing the Inventory.
Basically, we use it for asset management / compliance reporting primarily which is dead good.
