there looking at sun thin clients.
the test bed should be up and running after xmas for us to go along and do some testing.

That's good to hear. I am a fan of thin client myself, but have never been able to shift anyone in school from their Microsoft 'comfort' zone.Originally Posted by ind13
i haven't got a problem with thin client, but i think the main issue there gonna have is that they've chosen sun thin client.
moving from windows fat to windows thin wouldn't be too bad
but there looking at moving to sun(linux) thin,
with the amount of software that has been purchased over the past few years (thank you e-learning credits) half of which hardly ever gets used, its a case of trying to get all these bits of software working on it.

What happened to your jobs ?... and what happened to the ICT Manager.. were they kept on, pay reduced, sacked, dumped..?
What are your job roles now compared to to before the BSF ?

That's what you have Tarantella for ... my last place had a *very* nice offer from Sun and a partner to move to a Cisco network infrstructure and upgrade the existing Sun servers (File, web, email, filtering) and push out thin clients to replace aging (as in 5-8 years old) Macs (LC, LCIII and 5200s).Originally Posted by ind13
The Trustees didn't go for it in the end ... even though Sun were taking a loss on it all ... The kit is good, and the test stuff we had we kept as the partner company was bought out ... and this was missed off the assets. IIRC it ended up in Egglescliffe :-)
Heh, my Sun Rays ended up in Egglescliffe too...Originally Posted by GrumbleDook
I would be interested in their prices too, I would like to know if they are lower than mine as I don't get a (maybe) county-wide discount?

Are those self-build Jo? It's a very good price ...
Yeah they are, well urmm... student builtthey arn't just there for exams...hehe :P

Tsk tsk, even cheap labour too!![]()
Too right, they have built about 200 for the school now and only had one broken cpu, which a few pins pushed back in place and it worked fine!
Though looking at your tech room, it look a little cleaner than mine, especially after they have been building in there, no matter how many times I say put the rubbish in the empty computer boxes...

Wow you must have some messy kids, those pics were taken during the Great 2006 Clear Out (Though looking at your tech room, it look a little cleaner than mine, especially after they have been building in there) so a bit all over the place
