Sooner or later I predict 10 years there will be 1 if not 0 I.T. staff left in schools. Everything will be web based, server farmed and the friendly I.T. manager/tech gone.

But, surely one will be needed whether in 10 years to still change the toners, answer tech questions, swap monitors and do the dirty work, so maybe the tech will always be required.

I'm the NM at Pool Business and Enterprise college (for the moment anyway!). It's been on the cards for a long time here.
