I'm just very surprised that as I am in quite a large LEA (East Sussex) that nothing has happened, been spoken of or even indicated as going to happen.
I will certainly research the matter some more, and to be honest, so long as I still have a job, it matters not if I'm 'tuped' or otherwise, but the simple lack of information for my area is not particularly helpful.
East Sussex CC are running a 'One School Pathfinder' project at Bexhill High School ahead of their full BSF programme which is still some way off (as mentioned Wave 10-12).
So for now there will be no change at your school.

27th February 2010, 07:19 AM #124 Our school was built in 2003, opened september 2004 and we pay rent to the company that built the building for the next 25 years.
We had a managed it service for the first 4 years and it was rubbish, then they were removed and shortly after I came in,
do we have to worry about BSF???

You onle
have to take the managed IT service if you are a 100% rebuild. Since we are only a partial rebuild (80/15/5 - I think) we don't
have to take the managed IT server. We prefer you working for us, thanks!
Sweet!

I've been told that BSF won't happen in East Sussex, full stop, which was very welcome news. I suspect the above is what will happen in our school if it does though.

So what happens to the IT spend per pupil if they don't take the managed service......do
they still get some or all of it ?

It really does vary from wave to wave, from LA to LA.
Some LAs might look at using PFI builds (even if they never had or have dropped a managed ICT service) as bolstering the contract for the MSP.
Others will steer completely clear of it ... especially if they have had their fingers burnt already.
Sorry I can't give you something more concrete but you could get your SLT to ask the LA what teh position is, based on the worry that they might end up with another poor setup.

We're getting a refurb here (some buildings knocked down, some upgraded and some joining of existing buildings) and I've been told that the managed service is part of this. Even a local PFI school is expected to subscribe to the MSP in the end.

I wouldn't think so, but that's my opinion
