Just reading an interesting report on non-qts on SLT teams..
The changing role and influence of senior support staff in schools
Pretty much rises what people on here have said. You need a progressive head with vision to take step of having non-qts on your SLT. Also pay and conditions an issue and most non-QTS feel they have reached top of there career.

17th May 2011, 11:27 PM #2 Trouble is finding a head that is progressive in this respect is like finding the 3 legged rocking horse that will win the grand national. Most of the heads I know are looking out for themselves and could not care less about the non-qts staff.

17th May 2011, 11:43 PM #3 I think academy status will help this. The bursar will become pivotal, much as in private schools, and that will start the ball rolling.
There's an academic SLT in private schools, but the actual SLT running the school is a balance from both 'sides'.
