Well the job is changing, services built in and delivered through 'the cloud' are going to remove a lot of the System Administration aspects of the role.
Time to skill up and look to the future. You could do worse than peruse www.ictknowledgebase.org.uk. It's aimed at the third sector, but is a fantastic resource on how to do 'ICT' in budget oriented organisations, as educational establishments tend to be. It is actually quite light on its 'Cloudines', but covers everything from developing the Vision through to troubleshooting your LAN. In many ways it reminds me of the becta site back in the days before it completely forgot about those of us who actually have to make IT work.
Interestingly it was developed with central government funding, which ended a few years ago, but the charity behind it still manage to keep it going. I just thought I'd share it here for anyone who might be stepping up, or starting out on the path of ICT Management.
