I am in proccess of creating our part of pack that goes to new staff explaining about IT Support and all different systems we have here.
If you have one what do you include in it. If do not have one what would you include in it.
Russ

We are also in the process of creating a pack for new staff.
in the pack we will be including:
- Map of the school pointing out all available IT Resources
- New Username and Password for the Network
- Internet and user policy which they have to read and sign
- How to use the Helpdesk etc
- Information on the "Learning Platform" how to access it, what they can find on their etc
- Important contact numbers/Extentions including roles, i.e. Reception/IT Support
This will also merge with the information pack that is being created by a member of our SLT giving them all of the school information etc
On our Learning Platform, any information new staff require for the subject areas is actually going to be on there in the staff area. so they have an overview of the subject and courses etc (this is generally for Supply Staff)
James.
That's a good plan - I've been wanting to do this for a while but just don't seem to ever get around to it!

Maybe have a look at:
1. New Staff Pack
2. Joining Techinician
and pinch a few ideas and customize them for non it staff.
Ours has
How to Logon
How to login remotely from home
Email and OWA intro
IT Helpdesk
How to use your phone
How to use ePortal
How to use AB Tutor
Simple troubleshooting
AUP
How do you publish these? With so much focus on the environment these days do you print them out and distribute them?
I have thought about the pro's and con's of each distribution method (printed/CD/DVDs) and have still come to the conclusion that the best method is printed but am reluctant to print off a whole load just for them to sit in a corner.![]()

At the moment we print it off, but i am tempted to put it all on the platform and give them 1 sheet of paper with there login details and where they can find the information on the platform![]()
James.
i give mine a pack with 2 sandwiches and apple (the eating kind) , name, password and a good luck card!

I find an short 10min inset going through all the IT essentials, getting them to sign AUPs and actually conversing with them goes a long way rather than giving them more reading material which will probably end up in the bin before being read.![]()

Don't get me wrong bossman will be doing that but need something for them to take away as well..
Russ
In my experience the less you give them the better. They really won't read it.
I've thought of just giving them a picture of a computer and some colouring pencils - it might be more therapeutic and at least then they'd know what a computer looks like.![]()
