    Zimbra 8 password....OMG

So far, i've tried to change my password about 6 times...

    It needs
    12 Characters
    3 Punctuation
    3 Uppercase
    3 Numerical...

I'm waiting for it to ask me for a DNA sample...

I haven't got time for this!

EDIT: Thankfully this is only for Domain console users. I haven't got the time or the energy at the moment to explain it to others (who have never used it) so will change them to normal users for now...

Ah well, good reason to have it AD synced
That way you can tell your GPO security policy to only require inside leg measurement, cup size and IQ!

*has visions of @Little-Miss smothering her webcam to allow AD to check the size of her inside leg and cups!*

We're in the process of setting up & trialling Office 365 for staff. If it wasn't for AD syncing password requirements want a short essay!

haha omg! I don't know whether to laugh or cry...

See Edit. It's only for domain admin users...

I'd love to move from Zimbra. The thought of changing the staff over at the moment is horrific...

What's unclear is can you only access the Zimbra Admin page from within school still, due to IP filters in place as before?

If that's the case, why are 12 characters is necessary at all?

Anyone know how quickly Link2ICT are rolling out Zimbra 8 to schools? Should probably call them.

Access to the admin console is now possible externally.

The password also expires every 30 days IIRC - so come up with an easy to adapt password!

Oh, that's an external thing! Feel sorry for you We're glad to have Zimbra in house and therefore full control over it but storage limitations are coming to a head now Really, really like Zimbra compared to O365 which is modern for the sake of modern

yep, external....though at the moment, i cant access it at all.

Domain Admins can now access the Domain Admin console outside of the BGfL network by browsing to https://mail.link2ict.org:9071/zimbraAdmin/

This demands a higher level of security and the Domain Administrator passwords in turn require a greater level of complexity. With this in mind we have adopted the Birmingham City Council standard for external passwords which is as follows:

Your password must be at least 12 characters long and must contain:

    3 UPPER CASE LETTERS
    3 lower case letters
    3 Numbers
    3 'special characters' (:@~<>? etc)
This password must be changed on a monthly basis - you will be prompted to change this once it has expired.

I hadn't spotted the monthly basis bit. That's a bit annoying.

I do think a complex 12 character password on a 30 day basis is OTT in my opinion.

If a large corporation like Microsoft sets password requirements consisting of 8 characters, with one capital letter and one number, why isn't this good enough for Birmingham City Council?

12 characters of that complexity on a 30 day basis is just completely unnecessary. I'd question just how many people would start writing the password down, defeating the objective completely...

Just to rub salt in the wound they've rolled it out here and then sent out this email....

    Dear Colleague,

As you will be aware, Link2ICT has begun the process of migrating customers from Zimbra 5 to the newer Zimbra 8 platform. This was a necessary requirement because of stability issues and Zimbra 8 offers a more secure solution. We have however experienced some minor configuration issues during the migration and in order to address these we have decided to put any further migrations on hold while this is resolved.

    How does this affect you?

There will be no change in your mail service and you will be able to continue using Zimbra 5 with noticeably fewer issues.

    When will we be migrated?

As soon as we have resolved the configuration issues in Zimbra 8 we will make a decision as to when the migrations will recommence and you will be notified in due course. We are also looking at other cloud-based email solutions to determine whether these would better suit the needs of our customers and we may offer these as a future alternative.

I have heard good things about Zimbra 8, can I migrate anyway?

If you would still like to migrate to Zimbra 8, please contact the Link2ICT Service Desk and we will contact you to discuss your migration process.

If you have any questions, please contact the Link2ICT Service Desk on 0121 303 5100/servicedesk@link2ict.org or log into the Link2ICT Support Portal.

Make up your frigging minds please!!!!
