Once you start looking around you will find you can get a 100Mbs for very little more than you are currently paying for a 10Mbs. Just bear in mind the extra services you might want to check you can cover such as MIS.
For backup, go direct to Redstore. We did and have a much better service.

Further to our discussion earlier, due to our relationship with Service Birmingham, Virgin Media Business is unable to offer our services, at this moment in time.
This may change after Christmas, I will keep in touch.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Have a great Christmas and New Year.
--Just received the above from VM after contacting them directly. Surely this is anti competition?!?

When a few of us in Solihull were looking at becoming Academies we looked a various things and one was our ISP\Firewall\Filtering we did this as a group which we felt gave us a bit more bargaining power and the Heads, Business Managers and IT Managers met the LEA together to discuss the with Solihull LEA who very reasonable. The LEA are currently looking at moving suppliers and we are again in negotiations with them as a group to look at requirements and discuss the transition although all this is very amicable again looking at this with multiple schools and Business Managers and SLT.

How do you know that you will receive a better service elsewhere?

You don't for certain unless you try, what I do know is that the service we are currently being provided is not good enough and at a massively inflated price.

That's it in a nutshell!

Who will be first to take the plunge?
I admit the cost of a 10mb business line is the biggest joke since John Kerrys Climate change spiel.
Well the first point of call would be to look at other schools in other parts of the country and compare costs and services.
Virgin Media obviously will not want to party with the schools with out Link being the headliner. so who else is available to join the party?
Who will filter the search results?
Who will monitor it?
What AV would you use?
A whole array of questions will need to noted and asked.
Do we have all these questions?
Who wants to jump ship then?

I'm hoping you meant schoolsbroadband.co.uk

Out of interest what firewall does the LA use?

Give them a call and ask them.
I am sure they will not mind

And then the media wonders why Service Birmingham and Capita are under such heavy scrutiny at the moment. Let's not forget the £2million new library website.
It's been a trough for Capita for years as Birmingham is so large it is so difficult to build up inertia to get things moving. I'm sure the big push for this firewall upgrade was due to the plans to force all secondaries to convert within a few years and SB would loose most of their business if they were not competitive enough.

Anyone had issues with mail sent to BT email accounts being rejected? This has only happened since the firewall work migration was carried out. I have contacted Link2ict and they are trying to resolve the issue.

I've seen similar problems e-mailing Hotmail accounts and it was because (I believe) Link2ICT blacklist the whole domain. I know BT no longer uses Yahoo as its e-mail hosting provider. I'm not sure who they're using now - Google possibly, or someone else?
